Brown shaggy lemur, also known as the shaggy brown lemur, is a species of lemur and a fertile hybrid between a black-hooded lemur and a briddle-tailed lemur that were bred in captivity between 1870s and 1980s over time, until they were now a completely new species entirely, no longer able to breed with either black-hooded lemurs or briddle-tailed lemurs. The hybrid lemurs were then named brown shaggy lemurs and have been bred with other brown shaggy lemurs ever since, and have been introduced to eastern Madagascar and small parts of western Madagascar to replace some species of endangered lemurs extinct in those areas. They share the similar diet as both of the species lemurs they came from through captive breeding. They are about the size of a briddle-tailed lemur and are just as docile. They also flourish well in a life in the city and are even found in California due to zoo escapees.
