A hylian is a species of hominid. Physically, Hylians resemble humans, and the only difference appearance-wise between them is the Hylians' long, elf-like ears that supposedly enable them to hear special messages from the goddessess, but scientifically (and possibly more realistically), they had developed long elf-like ears so they could hear their enemies more efficiently. Hylians have an extended life-span compared to common humans, to the point of living for centuries. Their heritage also gives them unique psychic and magical abilities. The Hylians have therefore given birth to many heroes through the ages, most notably Link, who is still alive today. They are omnivores that feed on the same food as many other sapient species.
